We lost our Macaw named Fred (actually a female) Wed. 12/12/12 during surgery to remove a ruptured bound egg. My wife and I are devastated. We had her 24 1/2 years and she was one of our earliest rescues.

You can view the memorial page I made for her at:

http://www.humanewildlife.org/ourfred/

We also featured her in today's wildlife newsletter:

http://www.humanewildlife.org/newsletters/issue170.html

The newsletter was short today, because my heart hurts too much to make a full sized one. There is a link in the bottom article, of a humorous and interesting story I wrote about her, a beagle and a tiger cub, many many years ago.

My wife and I will think of Fred Macaw every day for the rest of our lives. Every time, every day, we will look out into the bird room, it will be empty. We love you forever Fred. :*(

Wonderful tribute to a great friend . RIP Fred.

Thank you Gayle. My heart still hurts over this. The house is so quiet without her. :(

I know, having a parrot in the house is like having a super great friend, The loss is terrible and will take time, quite some time for your heart to heal. You'll never forget her, but things will get somewhat better.

Hang in there, I feel for you so. I have lost a parrot too, and it hurts like heck. I still have Buster my Af. Grey, and don't know how I would deal with it if/when I loose him.

TAKE CARE DEAR FRIEND PATRICK.

I'm sure it will be a long time Gayle. A 1/4 century of having her around all the time. 25 years is not a long time for a macaw, they live longer than people. She was supposed to go to my step-son when I pass. Thanks ...

So sorry for your loss Catman

Thank you Ruth. I always figured she would outlive me. She should have..

Your right Cat, they should. Never a guarantee though. So sorry, I know you miss her terribly.
